The TechVenture
program, hosted by and at the Young Entrepreneurs Society
offered lessons in 3 different categories of modern day
technology. The first task, taught by Dan Richards, saw students building a computer from the parts up, then installing the necessary software to make the
computers run. The next activity, taught by David Wiles, had
students creating their own personal websites. They
learned the bare basics of HTML, and learn how to use
Microsoft's Front Page. The last part of the class, on
how to make money on the internet, was taught by Tim Cohen-Mitchell. Students described, photographed and posted an item to sell on EBay, the
world's leading online auction site (it sold!).
This was the first time the program ever took place, and
hopefully not the last. On my (David Wiles, web designer)
behalf, I think the program turned out really well. At first
the participants were a little shaky on what was going to be
happening over the course of the class, but once they got into
it, they all learned, and had a good time.
It was great to be able to see the participants sit in front
of a computer, and use Front Page for the first time, and get
good results. Everybody seemed to be having fun while making
their sites, which is a big plus. Everybody did very well for
their first time making a site. Click on the names to the left
to view each participant's web site. |
