QuabbinWorks College will provide high quality, hands-on training in job readiness, workplace basics, life skills, entrepreneurship, financial management, and business technology, among others. Class sessions and activities will meet during daytime, evening, and weekend hours at existing community facilities that are accessible by public transit by wheelchair, such as YES BizCenter, Quabbin Mediation, area firms, and North Quabbin Adult Education Center. The course of study will include credit-bearing classes offered over quarterly semester cycles supplemented by workshops and continuing education classes at community colleges. Grading will be pass/fail based on attendance, participation, and a completed portfolio demonstrating skills, attitudes, behaviors and knowledge (SKBAs) in the topic area as catalogued by both learners, peers and instructors on each learners' personal website. The course of study will culminate with a commencement ceremony. QuabbinWorks classes will be interactive and learner-centered and will be closely integrated with hands-on practica, independent study, job shadowing and internships; by visits from guest speakers; trial classes at local community colleges, by tours of area businesses, financial institutions, and other entities, and by informal networking events. Students must successfully complete the required number of credit hours to graduate. Alumni will receive a diploma, a transcript, references, and the ongoing support of two mentors. QuabbinWorks will offer job placement and business start-up services to alumni by working with area employers, temp agencies and business assistance organizations. For students completing their GED or their federal community college entrance exam, college and financial aid application assistance will be offered. |
